Riecine is seductively juicy, organic chianti at the highest level, made from 100% sangiovese; ballerina wine with everything in the right place. There is no cask make-up or turbo extraction here, but ‘simply’ a drinkable, singingly clean and resilient top-class chianti with Gaiole’s terroir as an essential part of its DNA.
Vigorous selection and thorough field care from chianti classico’s highest-situated fields in Gaiole in Chianti produce healthy wines that do not feel heavily extracted, but vital and full of flavor.
After many years of hiatus, Carlo Ferrini is back as a consultant, collaborating with Alessandro Campatelli to produce the optimal wine in a tastefully renovated winery that lives up to the ambitions.
The Sangiovese grapes are hand-harvested and hand-sorted in two rounds, after which they are de-stemmed and placed whole in 5500 L Nomblot concrete fermentation tanks. The weight of the upper grapes crushes the skins of the lower ones, where the alcoholic fermentation in the form of macaration carbonique begins by itself after three to four days. After approx. two weeks of fermentation and a total of three weeks of maceration, the wine is stored for approx. a year in different containers: Nomblot concrete tank, French tonneaux and large, unroasted Grenier casks (approx. 6000 L). The wine is then stabilized over three months in the Nomblot tanks, where they are clarified but bottled without filtration.
In aroma and taste you will find both juicy cherries with a perfumed, red-flowered and transparent fruitiness and a seamless but appropriate drinking experience; an irresistible onslaught of drinking pleasure that cries out for simple, loving food.
The wine is fruity and ready to drink right from the moment of release, but according to experience, it can also age nicely for 10 years at a time.
Enjoy at room temperature, at approx. 14-17° depending on temperament and season.
