Signatory Vintage 100 Proof Orkney (HP) 2011 – 14 Years #58, 57.1% is a robust “Secret Orkney” single malt from Highland Park, bottled by Signatory as part of its 100 Proof Edition series. Distilled in 2011 and bottled in 2025 at 14 years of age, it was finished in first-fill Amontillado sherry hogsheads and released at classic 100 UK proof – 57.1% ABV – non-chill filtered and naturally coloured.
Style & origin
This dram brings together Orkney’s signature gentle peat, heather honey and coastal salinity with nutty Amontillado sherry richness and dried fruit. The result is an intense yet well-balanced island malt that showcases Highland Park character in a punchy cask strength format.
Nose
The nose is rich, coastal and sherry-forward:
gentle peat smoke, glowing embers and a hint of tar
honey, malt loaf, toasted bread and caramelised nuts
raisins, figs and dark berries
orange zest, soft caramel and a subtle touch of roasted coffee in the background
Palate
On the palate, the whisky is oily, full-bodied and powerful:
initial honeyed sweetness with candied orange, vanilla fudge and malty toffee
layers of dried fruit, hazelnuts, almonds, dark berries and salted caramel
mild, herbal peat smoke, grilled meat notes and a firm, salty-mineral coastal backbone
oak spice with pepper and toasted oak adding grip and structure
A splash of water softens the heat and brings out more nuts, honey and bright citrus.
Finish
The finish is medium-long to long:
lingering honey and toffee
cocoa, dark chocolate and a hint of espresso
soft peat smoke, sea salt and a gently drying, spicy aftertaste
Serving & character
Best enjoyed neat in a tulip glass with a few minutes’ rest; at 57.1% ABV, it also responds beautifully to a few drops of water.
An excellent pick if you enjoy sherry-influenced, coastal single malts with subtle Orkney peat – and if you appreciate the value and punch of Signatory’s 100 Proof Editions.
