Old Monk 7 Years Old Rum 70 cl. 42,8%

Indian Aged Rum

Old Monk 7 Years Old is a classic Indian dark rum with real comfort appeal: rounded, smooth, and generously sweet-fruited in style. It tends to win over both curious newcomers and fans of richer, dessert-leaning flavours—and it works just as well in an easy highball as it does in warm serves.

Where it’s made and by whom

The rum is produced in India by Mohan Meakin, and it’s most closely associated with production in Ghaziabad (Uttar Pradesh). Old Monk is one of India’s most iconic rum names and has been a recognised classic since the 1950s.

Flavour profile

Nose: clear notes of vanilla, caramel/fudge, dark chocolate, and a lightly toasted sweetness, often with a gentle spice in the background.
Palate: smooth, full, and rounded with toffee, vanilla, chocolate, dried fruit, and a warming hint of spice.
Finish: medium to long, soft and lightly spiced with lingering, rounded sweetness.

The style is more “smooth and dessert-like” than dry and oak-driven—ideal if you want a rum that feels warm, approachable, and easy to enjoy.

Tips: how to use it

Serve it simply

  • On the rocks: lots of ice, plus an orange twist or slice if you like.

  • Rum & cola: the vanilla-caramel character fits the classic mix perfectly.

In drinks

  • Old Monk & Ginger (highball): 50 ml rum + ginger beer + lime (great if you like a spicy kick).

  • Dark Daiquiri (soft and fruity): rum + lime + simple syrup (use a touch less syrup for a fresher style).

  • Warm rum serve: in warm apple juice/tea with a lemon slice and a hint of spice (cinnamon/clove if you want).

Food pairing (if you want a pairing angle)

  • Chocolate desserts, caramel, banana, nuts—or as an after-dinner pour following spicier food.
