10-year-old whiskey with peaty strength
Promising single malt Scotch whiskey Bruichladdich Octomore! Bruichladdich Octomore 10-year-old single malt Scotch whiskey should be looked at slightly separately from other limited editions. Unlike its brethren, this release has received an age statement, but its style remains the peaty Islay style. In addition to smoke and peat, the palette includes accents of nectarines, vanilla and wood.
Octomore is back
The Octomore Distillery was founded in 1816 by George Montgomery in the port town of Port Charlotte on Islay near the shores of Loch Indaal. In 1852, the company was taken over by Thomas Pattison and closed the distillery the same year. In 2008, the Bruichladdich distillery expressed plans to reopen Octomore. Bruichladdich has been selling a malt whiskey called Octomore for several years.
Local barley and 77 barrels
The golden single malt refers to the character traits typical of this series and also emphasizes its own personality. What is special about the 10-year-old Bruichladdich Octomore is that a total of 77 special barrels were selected and blended for its composition. Nearly 50 of them were first filled with American boubon, and less than 20 pieces contained spirits matured, among others, in second-fill barrels made of American white oak. What Scotch whiskey distillates have in common is that they were all distilled in 2009 from local barley.
Not just smoke
In addition to the obvious smoke and phenolic accents, the 10-year-old dram features waves of tropical fruits combined with vanilla and wood accents.
Color: golden;
Aroma: strongly citrus, smoky, woody notes and vanilla;
Taste: tropical fruits, sea salt, honey, oak, wood and nectarines;
Finish: woody, coconut accents and phenols;
More flavor with added water
The smoky whiskey with a fruity and vanilla color surprises with the level of phenols – the barley was dried with peat at a level of over 200 ppm! If you like strong flavors, you’ve come to the right place. However, the addition of still water at room temperature will reveal more than just smoky accents. An inconspicuous drop of water will influence the presence of fruit and vanilla accents.
Presentation in a strict, minimalist style
A narrow, shapely tube with a deep black color houses an equally slim bottle. The minimalist design is enhanced by elegant colors: only a black background and silver and gold inscriptions. The bottle itself is gently profiled in the middle and has a long neck with a silver wrapper. It must be admitted that the presentation is as raw as the whiskey itself!
For fans of strong smoke
This is not a proposition for fans of delicate dramas. This limited single malt should go to those already well experienced in the subject of smoky, peaty whiskeys from Islay. The high level of phenols makes itself felt, and gourmets who like this type of alcohol should be satisfied.
