MUAC! Mallorca 2022 75 cl.

Terra de Falanis – Balearic Islands (Spain)

MUAC! 2022 from Terra de Falanis is an authentic red wine from Mallorca that captures the Mediterranean soul of the island. The wine is made from a harmonious blend of the local grapes Callet and Mantonegro together with Cabernet Sauvignon, resulting in a wine with both tradition and modern structure. It is aged in oak barrels, adding complexity and depth. MUAC! is an expression of the character of the terroir, where the sea breeze and the warmth of the sun shape the wine’s fruity and spicy profile. The name, inspired by the sound of a kiss, underlines the wine’s passionate and lively nature.

The Callet, Mantonegro and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are harvested from selected vineyards on Mallorca. After fermentation, the wine is aged in oak barrels to achieve structure and complexity. This process highlights the wine’s fruity character and adds subtle spicy notes. Terra de Falanis, founded by Miquel Àngel Cerdà and Pere Obrador, works to preserve the island’s wine traditions and terroir in every bottle.

Garnet-red in colour, with aromas of black and red berries, spice and Mediterranean herbs. The palate is fresh, full and rounded, with integrated tannins and a touch of candied fruit.

If you do not already know Terra de Falanis, you are likely to remember them quickly for their wild labels alone. But the wine inside the bottle is certainly serious enough. Terra de Falanis is an area on Mallorca where the world-famous winery Anima Negra is located. The people behind Anima Negra are also behind this project, in which they have brought together a number of small winegrowers in Catalonia and on Mallorca to cultivate the grapes for these wines, with the ambition of creating wines that are just as unique and typical of their origin as those Anima Negra itself produces on Mallorca.

The magic happens at the old manor house Son Burguera, near the town of Felanitx, where the buildings date back to the 13th century. Just like Anima Negra’s own wines, such as AN/2, only the best fruit is used in production. After vinification, the wines are aged in a combination of used barrels and steel, allowing the natural terroir of the wine to truly come forward.

Soil, climate and plants
The name of the winery, Terra de Falanis, was the name that historian Miquel Barceló used for the town and its people before Felanitx existed as such. As a name that returned to the roots, it was therefore only fitting to use this old name. The project is based on three very simple pillars: soil, climate and plants. And although that may sound obvious in itself, for the people behind the winery it is all about the art of knowing how and when to apply the winemaking process in harmony with these three pillars. When this succeeds, harmony between people and nature arises – and with it, the wine.

The labels are a chapter of their own
The labels are truly something special. They were created by the talented comic artist, and close friend of the winery, Pere Joan. Through his drawings, he has succeeded in conveying a message of sincerity, quality, honesty and reliability.

“When the inside of the bottle is taken so seriously, there is no need for an elaborate image to decorate the outside,” Pere Joan has explained. The playful expression is simply used to show that when you are serious enough on the inside, you can have a little more fun on the outside. Furthermore, the use of onomatopoeic words such as “MUAC!”, “Plic plic plic” and “bla bla bla” helps simplify the way we think about the wines, so you can simply relax and enjoy them.
