Laphroaig 30 Years 70 cl. 45,8%

Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Laphroaig 30 Years 45.8% is a beautifully mature Islay single malt that shows the distillery’s character in a refined, almost regal form. Aged for three decades in a combination of American oak barrels and European ex-sherry casks and bottled at 45.8% ABV, it marries Laphroaig’s unmistakable peat smoke with layers of citrus, fruit and polished oak.

Producer – Laphroaig Distillery

Founded in 1815 on Islay’s southern coast, Laphroaig is world-renowned for producing some of the most distinctive peated single malts in Scotland. Its whiskies are shaped by Atlantic winds, sea spray and malted barley dried over thick peat fires, creating a medicinal, coastal and heavily smoky profile. The 30-year-old expression represents a pinnacle of that style, where time has softened the edges and added depth and elegance.

Nose

The nose is complex, composed and gently smoky:

  • fruity and sweet at first, with zesty orange and lemon peel, citrus oils and charred citrus

  • vanilla custard, crème anglaise, treacle toffee and light pastry notes

  • bergamot, sweet patisserie, fresh thyme and a touch of white pepper

  • a veil of warm ashes, distant beach bonfire and subtle ocean spray

The peat is clearly Laphroaig, but softened and woven into the fruit and oak rather than dominating them.

Palate

On the palate, the whisky is silky, medium-bodied and wonderfully balanced.

  • a sweet, citrus-led arrival of orange marmalade, lemon curd and vanilla cream, with hints of sweet pastries

  • bergamot, honeyed sponge cake, marzipan, soft fudge and herbal notes of thyme and maybe rosemary

  • gentle white pepper, oak spice and a light tannic grip for structure

  • peat smoke builds slowly in the background: glowing embers, sooty campfire, a trace of iodine and charred citrus peel

It feels very much like a “grand old Laphroaig” – recognisable, yet more nuanced and graceful than the distillery’s younger bottlings.

Finish

The finish is long and lingering:

  • smouldering peat smoke, soot and gentle tar

  • citrus peel, bergamot, herbs and white pepper

  • a fading sweetness of vanilla, caramel and toasted oak

It leaves a warm, coastal, slightly smoky impression that invites slow sipping.

Serving & style

Laphroaig 30 Years 45.8% is best enjoyed neat in a tulip-shaped glass after a short rest in the glass. A small splash of water can reveal extra layers of fruit, floral notes and sherry influence, while keeping the refined peat core intact.

This is a remarkable choice for those who love Laphroaig’s bold smoky style, but want to experience it at its most mature and sophisticated – where peat, citrus, tropical and floral notes, vanilla and old oak are perfectly balanced.
