Isle of Raasay Dún Cana 70 cl. 52%

Hebridean Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Once again, Isle of Raasay Distillery takes you out of your comfort zone in the Inner Hebrides when you enjoy a glass of Dún Cana. With its interplay of few but distinctive elements, Dún Cana invites you on a journey of flavor, where Rye Cask contributes its characteristic dry spice note, while Sherry Cask adds subtle sweetness and warmth.

The harmonious balance between peated and unpeated malt whisky is enhanced by the whisky’s 52% ABV, which provides a richer and deeper tasting experience. In the end, you can once again lean back and feel at home with a fine glass of whisky in hand, while the moon rises above Dun Cana – Raasay’s distinctive mountains – and the light reflects in the sea around the island, whose name derives from the Old Norse word for “island of the roe deer.”

Great recognition must be given to Master Distiller Alasdair Day, who once again pushes the boundaries of what can almost be described as alchemy, since whisky distillation resumed on the Isle of Raasay.

Nose: Notes of dry rye, Muscovado sugar, and hints of stewed plums and figs.
Palate: Creamy, with a full malt profile, notes of dark chocolate and orange peel, complemented by warm spices.
Finish: The finish offers well-balanced spices and rounded oak notes from both Rye Cask and Sherry Cask, rounded off with a touch of peat smoke.

Isle of Raasay Distillery – Tradition Meets Innovation

Raasay Distillery is not merely a distillery – it is a driving force for renewal and growth on one of the most beautiful islands in the Scottish Hebrides. With a vision of creating something unique without letting go of what is original, the distillery has succeeded in attracting young people from the cities and reviving the local community. The island’s average age has dropped to 30, and the population is growing – a development carried by the power of whisky. Whether they will one day reach 1,500 inhabitants again, as they once had, time will tell.

The distillery has set out to become as self-sufficient as possible. Grain is now being cultivated on the island once again, and the goal is for the entire production process – from cultivation to distillation, maturation, and bottling – to take place locally.

Raasay Distillery also stands out through its maturation technique. Part of their whisky is matured in ex-Bordeaux red wine casks from highly regarded estates, to which the family behind the distillery has personal ties. The casks arrive fresh and free of mold during the colder months, when they are filled with new make spirit and left to mature on the island. This gives the whisky a distinctive character: a pink hue in its younger years, which gradually deepens into a darker red over time.

The flavor profile carries notes of dried fruits, sultanas, grapes, Christmas cake, and bread pudding – a complex and warming experience that reflects both terroir and craftsmanship. Raasay Distillery stands for authenticity, responsibility, and innovation.
