Hatozaki Blended Whiskey is a premium blend, containing many different whiskies, which are up to 12 years old. Hatozaki has a very high proportion of malt whiskies, which is a minimum of 40%.
The distillery is designed to produce Japanese single malt whiskey and has been named the Kaikyo Distillery after the famous Akashi-Kaikyo Bridge that lies in front of the distillery. While the single malt matures in the warehouses, they have produced this blend.
Fragrance
Lots of malt and cask
Taste
The backbone is clearly the malt, along with a lovely soft sweetness and the notes from the cask
Aftertaste
The sweet malt lingers, after which it disappears very pleasantly
Comment
The light and bright style makes it useful in both highball cocktails and as a daily dram!
“Elegant, rounded and easy to drink”, this is how the Kaikyō distillery itself describes Hatozaki – “our whiskey is the icing on the cake for relaxing moments with friends, family and other people you love. From the curious amateur to the seasoned connoisseur; Hatozaki welcomes everyone.”
Hatozaki was named after the oldest stone lighthouse in Japan, a symbol of safety and guidance from ancient times, which has thus been inducted into Japan’s List of Historic Monuments. Hatozaki’s design is strongly inspired by the soft and naturalistic art form used in the Edo period (1603-1868), Hatozaki incorporates a deep respect for the Scotch whisky, to which Japanese whiskey itself is indebted.
