G.D. Vajra Langhe Nebbiolo D.O.C. 2023 75 cl.

Piemonte – Italy

The wine shows a bright ruby-red colour and an alluring bouquet of wild cherries, dried rose petals and a touch of liquorice and spice. On the palate it is elegant and precise, with silky tannins and a lively acidity that provides both freshness and length. The finish reveals notes of ripe strawberries, a hint of orange zest and a fine mineral edge that reflects the terroir.
The Langhe region in Piedmont is one of Italy’s most renowned wine areas, famous for its rolling hills, calcareous soils and unique microclimate that creates ideal conditions for the Nebbiolo grape. G.D. Vajra’s vineyards are planted at elevations of up to 400 metres above sea level, allowing the grapes to ripen slowly and evenly. The combination of warm days and cool nights preserves their natural acidity and aromatic complexity.
This wine is made exclusively from hand-harvested Nebbiolo grapes, carefully sorted to ensure the highest quality. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks with gentle extraction to preserve the variety’s characteristic elegance. After fermentation, the wine undergoes malolactic conversion before ageing for about 12–18 months in large Slavonian oak casks.
About G.D. Vajra
G.D. Vajra is a relatively young winery for Piedmont – and probably the first in the region to adopt organic viticulture. Beautifully situated in the hills near the village of Barolo and surrounded by the Alps, its vineyards allow the grapes to ripen slowly, developing refined, fruit-forward character.
Barolo is often associated with prestige and exclusivity, but Vajra’s philosophy is different: wine should bring joy and be accessible to all. Under the motto “Life is beautiful”, they create colourful, vibrant wines meant to be enjoyed on an ordinary Tuesday as much as on a festive occasion.
The Vajra style is characterised by elegance and freshness – often compared to Burgundy – thanks to vineyards located around 400 metres above sea level. Since its founding in 1972, the estate has expanded to 40 hectares, with Nebbiolo at its core. The wines are traditionally vinified with long maceration and ageing in large Slavonian oak, while also making use of subtle modern techniques such as temperature-controlled fermentation. The result is pure, stable wines with long ageing potential and a true expression of Piedmontese tradition.
