The wine presents itself with a brilliant ruby-red colour and an irresistible nose of ripe cherries, violets and a hint of almond. On the palate it is dry, juicy and lively, with soft tannins and a lightly spiced finish.
Dolcetto d’Alba from G.D. Vajra comes from the heart of Piedmont, specifically the high-altitude vineyards around the town of Alba. Here, the Dolcetto grape benefits from cool nights and sunny days, allowing for a slow ripening that achieves a fine balance between freshness and fruit. The soils are primarily calcareous clay and marl, contributing to the wine’s elegant structure and finesse.
Harvest is carried out by hand to ensure perfectly ripe fruit. The grapes are gently destemmed and fermented in stainless steel tanks under controlled temperatures. Maceration lasts about 10–15 days, ensuring a delicate extraction of colour and aromatics without excessive tannin. The wine is then aged in stainless steel for around 6 months to preserve its fruity profile before bottling without filtration.
About G.D. Vajra
G.D. Vajra is a relatively young estate in Piedmont – and likely the first in the region to adopt organic viticulture. Nestled in the hills near Barolo and surrounded by the Alps, its vineyards allow grapes to ripen slowly, producing wines of great elegance and fruit purity.
While Barolo is often associated with prestige and high prices, Vajra’s philosophy is different: wine should bring joy and be accessible to everyone. Under the motto “Life is beautiful”, the family produces colourful, vibrant wines meant for everyday enjoyment as much as for celebrations.
The style is marked by freshness and elegance, sometimes likened to Burgundy, thanks to vineyard sites as high as 400 metres above sea level. Since its founding in 1972, the family has grown the estate to 40 hectares, including 10 hectares of Nebbiolo on prestigious plots such as Bricco delle Viole and Fossati. Winemaking is traditional with long maceration and large Slavonian oak, yet combined with modern precision like temperature-controlled fermentation – yielding pure, age-worthy wines true to the Piedmontese tradition.
