Edradour 21 Years 1999/2021 Bordeaux Cask Finish 70 cl. 55,7%

Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Edradour 21 Years 1999/2021 Bordeaux Cask Finish is an unusually mature and expressive Edradour, where the distillery’s dense, malty “old school” style meets a wine-cask finish that leaves a clear imprint on the aromas. Distilled in 1999 and bottled in 2021 after 21 years of maturation, it’s released at natural cask strength of around 55.7% ABV. The flavour architecture is typical for this kind of release: a long spell in ex-bourbon hogsheads (building Edradour’s creamy, oily core), followed by an extended finish in Bordeaux wine casks, adding red fruit, freshness, and a more vinous depth.

On the nose you’ll often find a striking mix of orange peel and caramelised sugar, followed by red berries (think redcurrant/blackberry), a soft buttery note, and a slightly “cakey” malty warmth. The Bordeaux casks bring a fruity, almost jammy energy, without turning perfumed—especially with a little air in the glass.

The palate is full and concentrated: citrus oils and sweet malt up front, then a wave of red fruit and darker fruit tones, held together by a spicy oak thread that frames the whole profile. Edradour’s oily texture helps the wine-cask notes feel integrated rather than “painted on”, while the strength delivers a long flavour journey rather than mere heat.

The finish is long and warming with brown sugar/toffee, black pepper and a gentle spice that can lean toward cinnamon, as the red fruit lingers alongside a dry, elegant oak note.

Serving tip: Try it neat first to capture the full depth. Then add a few drops of water—this often opens the red-berry notes, rounds the oak, and makes the oily malty core even clearer.
