Da Luca Primitivo-Merlot 75 CL

Italian Puglia IGT Red

Da Luca is synonymous with a juicy, full-bodied and soft red wine from Puglia, the southern Italian heel, which approaches the epitome of ‘value-for-money’.

The wine is made from a mixture of the local primitivo grape and the ‘Bordeaux grape’ merlot, which due to the hilly terrain must be harvested by hand – an expensive but quality-promoting effort. The slightly unconventional grape blend has produced a happy marriage with equal parts southern charm and pure elegance. In this warm region, the treatment of the grapes and the fermenting must is of paramount importance to obtain a successful result. The team behind Da Luca possesses both the expertise and the state-of-the-art equipment needed to produce wines with both fruit, fullness and finesse.

Half of the wine spends 6 months in oak, which rounds it out and contributes soft, ripe tannins without overpowering the wine’s fruity identity. Despite a slight predominance of primitivo in the wine, it is the merlot grape that plays first violin with its full, soft fruit. Aroma and taste have intense nuances of dark, ripe fruit, coffee beans and chocolate, where the influence of the Primitivo grape can be felt at the end of the taste, where the spicy element of the grape is allowed to play with. The wine is full-bodied and soft with supple tannins and a good freshness that balances the fullness. In terms of taste, we are on the dry end, but the wine’s juicy fruit makes it an easy-drinking experience that is suitable for the glass in the early hours as well as a luxurious meatball wine.
