Château Lafon Sauternes 2020 AOP 75 CL

Vin de Bordeaux

Château Lafon is located just a few meters from the world-famous Château d’Yquem, and is surrounded on all sides by vineyards that belong precisely to Château d’Yquem. These are not entirely bad prerequisites for making excellent Sauternes yourself, and it is probably not wrong to think that Château Lafon creates some of the world’s best wine for the price.

Château Lafon has been run by the same family for four generations with great love for the sweet white wine. The unique terroir is shared with famous neighbors such as Château Suduiraut, Lafaury Peyraguey, Rayne Vigneau and of course Château d’Yquem. The vines on Château Lafon’s 12-hectare property are, like their neighbours, on prime terroir with gravelly hilltops on a clay subsoil in the communes of Fargues, Bommes, Preignac and Sauternes.

Château Lafon is blessed with vines that are over 50 years old. According to local historical sources, the Lafon family had always owned the grounds and decided to build a castle on them in 1867. During the hard times of the Depression, it was sold to the Dufour family, who now in the fourth generation maintain the castle’s independence, while most of the neighbors are owned by multinationals companies.
Lafon’s 12 hectares of vineyards consist of 98% Semillon and 2% Sauvignon Blanc planted on gravelly ridges with a limestone subsoil. Up to six harvests are carried out by hand to select only the best, botrytized grapes.

At Lafon, a modern approach is combined with vinification in stainless steel vats, fermentation at low temperatures and classic traditions with aging in oak barrels.

And here we are talking about a fantastically beautiful and classic Sauternes for the price. It is intense and sweet with enormous storage potential. It has a scent of honey, apricots and hazelnuts with fine notes of acacia and candied fruits.
