Arran Amarone Cask Finish is a single malt bottled at 50 % ABV, finished in Amarone wine casks sourced from the Veneto region in Italy. After initial maturation in oak, the whisky receives a secondary finish of approximately 8 months in ex-Amarone casks. The result is a rich, layered dram with both Arran’s malty sweetness and Amarone’s intense fruit character.
Visually, the whisky exhibits a deep copper tone hinting at its wine influence. On the nose, expect prominent notes of cherries, cranberries, dried figs, honey, toffee, chocolate and a hint of warm spice.
The palate is full-bodied and rounded, offering flavours of dark fruit, chocolate, raisin, stewed berries, and honey. Subtle spice elements like cinnamon, nutmeg and a whisper of anise weave through, while Arran’s core profile—citrus and orchard fruit—balances the sweetness.
The finish is medium-length, fruity with a gentle drying tannic pull and spice-driven persistence. Amarone-derived layers of berries and spice emerge elegantly without overshadowing the whisky’s own character.
Bottled without chill filtration or added coloration, this is an authentic expression of Arran’s innovative cask finishing. The Amarone Cask Finish is a standout in their experimental series, showcasing how wine casks can elevate a whisky into something uniquely compelling.
