Local, traditional, and unique. Savagnin white wine has a style all of its own in the Jura—equal parts charming and distinctive. The grape variety belongs to the Traminer family, whose most famous member is Alsace’s Gewürztraminer. Savagnin, however, is far less intensely aromatic and instead leans on a more citrus-led, floral and tropical expression—exactly what you’ll find here.
There’s a slightly under-ripe impression of sun-kissed southern fruits, where the tropical notes are present but never over the top. This is complemented by more classic European stone-fruit characters, lifted with a touch of lemon. A captivating variety that can be enjoyed on its own or paired with food.
The wine was aged for 9 months in oak barrels.
Arbois Blanc Savagnin “Ouillé” is made from 100% Savagnin from Arbois in the Jura, where the grapes are picked at good ripeness while preserving vibrant acidity. After gentle pressing, the juice is fermented to dryness—often in neutral oak or stainless steel—and some producers rely on native yeasts to highlight terroir and varietal character. What defines the style is the “ouillé” approach: during ageing the barrels are regularly topped up to minimise oxygen exposure, avoiding the oxidative development that is traditionally associated with Jura wines aged under a yeast veil (“sous voile”). The wine often spends time on its lees to build texture and depth, and depending on producer and vintage, malolactic fermentation may be allowed or prevented to fine-tune roundness and tension. Once the balance is right, the wine is bottled with careful handling and typically moderate sulphur. The result is a cleaner, fresher, more fruit-driven expression of Savagnin, showing pronounced minerality and a saline edge, citrus and stone-fruit notes, herbal nuances and sometimes a subtle nutty hint—without the overt oxidative character.
