Finca Torrea is an expressive red wine from Rioja Alavesa, crafted by the historic winery Marqués de Riscal, founded in 1858 in Elciego. The producer is one of the most influential in Rioja, combining classical tradition with modern winemaking.
The grapes for Finca Torrea come from vineyards around Elciego and consist mainly of Tempranillo, complemented by a small amount of Graciano. The vines are relatively old, providing concentration and structure to the wine. Harvesting is done by hand, and vinification focuses on highlighting fruit and terroir rather than allowing oak to dominate. The wine is aged for around 18 months in French oak barrels, adding complexity and maturity while keeping the fruit vibrant.
The result is a wine with a deep cherry-red colour and youthful violet reflections. The bouquet is intense, offering dark cherries, plums, blackberries, along with notes of liquorice, balsamic hints and subtle vanilla from oak ageing. On the palate it is full-bodied and powerful, with balanced acidity, firm yet ripe tannins, and a long, elegant finish with fruit, oak and spicy nuances.
Finca Torrea has an alcohol level of around 14–14.5% and is best served at 16–18 °C. It is an excellent food wine, particularly well-suited to grilled or roasted red meats, game, hearty stews, and dishes with mushrooms or spicy flavours.
This wine represents the more modern side of Marqués de Riscal – a Rioja with greater fruit expression and elegance than the traditionally long-aged styles, while still retaining depth, power, and the distinctive character of Rioja Alavesa.
