Isle of Raasay The Draam 70 cl. 46,4%

Hebridean Single Malt Scotch Whisky

“The Draam” presents, with calm confidence, the essence of solid craftsmanship – from idea to fully matured whisky bottled and ready to enjoy. The whisky has been matured in first fill ex-Rye Whiskey casks, virgin Chinkapin oak casks, and first fill Bordeaux red wine casks.

Raasay’s distinctive combination of maturation across different cask types creates a harmonious balance between the three cask influences, while the interplay of peated and unpeated malt whisky delivers a tasting experience that brings to mind the view across the fjord from Raasay Distillery on a quiet autumn day with the sun hanging low. The flavour feels like a journey around the scenic island itself – an experience that naturally ends with a quiet expression of thanks: “The Draam.”

Nose: Red apples, ginger, vanilla, and a touch of peat smoke.
Palate: Tart apples, marzipan, spices, toasted bread, and a light, elegant peat smoke.
Finish: Fruity notes, tangy red berries, ginger, and a mix of peat smoke and bonfire smoke.

Isle of Raasay Distillery – Tradition Meets Innovation

Raasay Distillery is not just a distillery – it is a driving force for renewal and growth on one of the most beautiful islands in the Scottish Hebrides. With a vision of creating something unique without letting go of what is original, the distillery has succeeded in attracting young people from the cities and revitalising the local community. The island’s average age has fallen to 30, and the population is growing – a development driven by the power of whisky. Whether they will one day reach 1,500 inhabitants again, as they once did, remains to be seen.

The distillery has set itself the goal of becoming as self-sufficient as possible. Grain is now being cultivated on the island again, and the ambition is for the entire production process – from farming to distillation, maturation, and bottling – to take place locally.

Raasay Distillery also stands out through its maturation technique. Part of their whisky is matured in ex-Bordeaux red wine casks from highly regarded estates, to which the family behind the distillery has personal ties. The casks arrive fresh and free from mould during the colder months, when they are filled with new make spirit and left to mature on the island. This gives the whisky a particular character: a pink hue in its younger years, which gradually deepens into a darker red over time.

The flavour profile is marked by dried fruits, sultanas, grapes, Christmas cake, and bread pudding – a complex and warming experience that reflects both terroir and craftsmanship. Raasay Distillery stands for authenticity, responsibility, and innovation.
