Langhe Nebbiolo Claré J.C. is G.D. Vajra’s take on a more “historical” Nebbiolo style—lighter, brighter, and fresher than the Nebbiolo most people associate with Barolo and Barbaresco. The concept draws on older descriptions of Nebbiolo wines that emphasized drinkability and energy rather than maximum extraction and weight. The goal is a transparent, lively wine that delivers classic Nebbiolo aromatics in a more easy-footed frame.
The grapes come from younger Nebbiolo vines in the Langhe, and the winemaking is geared toward preserving freshness and aromatic precision. The wine typically rests for a period in stainless steel before bottling, helping keep the fruit profile clean and the structure clear and direct.
In the glass, it’s often a bright, transparent ruby. Aromas commonly lean toward raspberries, rosehip, and fresh red berries, with floral hints of rose and a gentle touch of spice. The palate is dry and light to just medium-bodied, with relatively high acidity and fine-grained tannins that provide shape without heaviness. You’ll often find a lift of citrus peel and a subtle peppery edge that makes it especially appetizing.
Serving and pairing
Serve slightly cool, around 14–16 °C, to highlight freshness.
A short aeration can help, especially in young vintages.
Excellent with charcuterie, mushroom pasta, chicken or veal, lighter grilled dishes, and herb-driven recipes.
