Pegrandi Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Riserva is one of Cantina Vaona’s most ambitious expressions of Amarone—rooted in a clear origin and made in a style that balances power with elegance. Vaona is a family producer based in Marano di Valpolicella (Valgatara), in the heart of Valpolicella’s classic zone. Their identity is closely tied to the craft of appassimento: careful grape selection, patience during the drying period, and a winemaking approach that aims for both concentration and balance rather than sheer weight.
The name Pegrandi refers to a vineyard of the same name owned by the family. The hillside setting in Marano di Valpolicella offers strong conditions for grapes that need extended drying without losing freshness. In the Riserva bottling, Vaona typically relies on a classic local blend, with Corvina and Corvinone at the core, Rondinella as a key supporting variety, and occasionally small portions of other traditional grapes. The result is a combination of aromatic lift, deeper structure, and spicy backbone.
Stylistically, this is an Amarone that often shows a deep garnet color and a bouquet of concentrated cherry and plum, frequently layered with warm spice, cocoa, and a balsamic edge. On the palate it is dense and long, but the point is overall harmony: a serious Riserva should deliver intensity without feeling heavy, with velvety tannins and a persistent, balanced finish.
Serving and pairing
Serve slightly cooler than typical “room temperature,” around 16–18 °C, and give it generous aeration to let the aromas unfold.
A classic match for game, slow-braised dishes, rich meat courses, and aged cheeses.
It also works beautifully as a “meditation wine” when you want to sip slowly and follow its evolution in the glass.
