Springbank 10 Years Fino Cask Matured 55% is a much-anticipated release from Campbeltown, bringing together the distillery’s classic gently smoky, coastal style with the dry, nutty character of Fino sherry. The whisky spends its initial years in refill bourbon hogsheads before being fully matured in fresh Fino sherry casks made from American oak, creating a complex interplay of barley, sea air and wine cask influence.

On the nose, you are greeted by blood orange, vanilla custard, biscuit, brandy snaps and light oak, wrapped in a subtle thread of peat smoke and salty sea breeze. The palate is oily and full-bodied, showing layers of cinnamon sugar, fresh mint, praline, sour cherries and lemon curd, all carried by Springbank’s trademark malty weight and a firm yet well-integrated cask strength. The finish is long and playful, with sweet-and-sour notes of lime, caramelised sugar, a hint of cola-bottle candy and a dry, lightly salty edge that evokes the Campbeltown coastline.

This is a whisky for those who love Springbank’s rustic, artisanal character but want to experience it through a drier, more wine-driven sherry lens. The Fino casks add a different dimension compared to the usual Oloroso or PX – more citrus, more nuttiness, more tension – while still allowing the distillery character to shine. Best enjoyed in a tulip glass, first neat and then with a few drops of water to open up both the sherry notes and the maritime smoke.
