The small, square bottle that holds Nikka Whisky From the Barrel has become a fixture in countless bars around the world. It is arguably one of the most popular Japanese whiskies on the market! Launched in 1985 by Takeshi Taketsuru, the idea was to give consumers the same experience as the master blender — tasting the whisky as if straight from the cask.
Although it isn’t quite cask strength (51.4%), such a high alcohol content was almost unheard of in Japan at the time. Today, strong whiskies are more common, but this pioneering bottling, From the Barrel, has become a true classic that still stands among the finest in terms of quality.
The whisky itself is what’s known as a world blend — it contains not only Japanese whisky but also whisky from countries such as the USA and Scotland.
This edition comes in a newly designed, minimalist, and more eco-friendly box, along with two glasses and a pouring stopper.
Colour: Deep amber. Aroma: Beautiful and complex nose of brioche, mint, orange peel, walnut, and toffee. Taste: Rich and oily on the palate, with notes of caramel, butter, cinnamon sugar, and stone fruits.
Serving suggestion: Opens up beautifully with a drop of water.
