About the Product
A truly classic, well-rounded 12-year-old single malt. However, this whisky has received a sherry finish, giving it a slight extra twist that sets it apart from other whiskies in the same age category.
Tomatin 12-Year-Old Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky is aged in a combination of bourbon and sherry casks and bottled at 43% ABV.
Tasting Notes
Sherry sweetness and malty notes fill the nose, along with hints of raisins and oranges. The sherry sweetness continues in the taste, where fruits (especially apples, pears, and mango) join in. Additionally, heather, pine needles, cedarwood, and caramel can be detected. Finally, the whisky transitions into a long, rich, buttery sensation, which at the back of the tongue manifests as a soft sherry flavor.
About Tomatin Distillery
The Tomatin Distillery is said to have roots dating back to the Middle Ages when spirits were brewed in the area where the distillery stands today. However, the distillery was officially founded in 1897 under the name “Tomatin Spey Distillery Co Ltd.”
Until the late 1970s, the company operated under the motto “Largest!” and had as many as 23 stills in production. However, most of their whisky was sold to other distilleries for use in blends, meaning that quality was not the main focus.
The 1980s were a tough time for the Scottish whisky industry, and Tomatin was no exception. In 1987, the struggling company was acquired by Japanese investors, marking a turning point – the motto was changed from “Largest!” to “Best!”
The mission seems to be on the right track – today, Tomatin produces a wide range of high-quality products, including both Single Malt and Blended Whisky, and exports to over 50 international markets. The distillery’s whisky can be described as smooth, delicious, and easy to enjoy!
In addition to the releases under their own brand name, Tomatin also produces the following brands – Cù Bòcan, The Antiquary, and The Talisman.
