Fresh and crisp

The Mark Riesling reveals wonderfully fresh and lively aromas of honey, ripe apricots, peach and hints of mandarin. The overture is a clear acidity, followed by star fruit and kiwi with hints of lemon peel, finally finishing with a harmonious acidity nicely enveloped by the wine’s natural residual sugar. The finish is clean and crisp.
Serving temperature: 10–12 °C

Production

The grapes for The Mark Riesling are carefully selected and harvested from Airport Ranch Vineyards in the heart of the Yakima Valley. The Mark Riesling demonstrates in the finest way what the Riesling grape can develop into in Yakima Valley. The grapes are harvested fully ripe early in the morning in the second week of October. Upon arrival at the winery, the grapes are sorted so that only the best are used. The grapes are pressed and the juice rests for 72 hours before the sediment is removed and fermentation begins. A very special yeast strain isolated from German Riesling grapes is added. Fermentation takes place at 14°C for almost four weeks before it is stopped in order to preserve the wine’s natural residual sugar. After fermentation, the wine is stirred on its natural lees twice a month for two months to give the wine fullness. Finally, the wine is stabilised and filtered before it is ready for bottling.

The 2022 vintage was a rollercoaster. The growing season started with a mild winter, but frost and a cool spring delayed budding and flowering. The warmth did not arrive until mid-July and resulted in record growth in the vineyards. The heat continued into autumn, extending the hang time of the grapes on the vines, which ripened the grapes optimally with incredible layers of flavour. The 2022 vintage shows ripe and fruit-forward aromas and can be enjoyed already now or cellared.
