The Glenallachie Sinteis Part 1 Sherry PX & Chinquapin 2014 70 cl. 57,8%

Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky

GlenAllachie Sinteis Part I (2014 Chinquapin & PX Cask Matured) marks the debut of a new limited series from the distillery, with “Sinteis” derived from the Gaelic word for “synthesis.” It’s a fitting name for a whisky that brings together two powerful cask types in a carefully balanced harmony: Pedro Ximénez (PX) sherry puncheons and virgin Chinquapin oak barrels.

Distilled in 2014 and bottled at cask strength in 2025 (57.8% ABV), this single malt is non-chill filtered and natural in colour. The PX puncheons lend richness and sweetness—dark fruits, treacle, and spiced cake—while the virgin Chinquapin oak introduces bold spice, vanilla, roasted nuts, and a creamy texture. Chinquapin, a lesser-used American oak species from Missouri, imparts a distinct herbal and toasted character that stands up well to the sherry’s intensity.

On the nose, you’ll find layers of liquorice, butterscotch, grilled honeycomb, cocoa, and dried orchard fruits. The palate follows with vibrant flavours of fig jam, blackberries, dark chocolate, and candied citrus, underpinned by ginger spice, cinnamon, and oak tannins. There’s a lovely interplay of sweet richness and firm spice, making it a bold yet elegant dram.

The finish is long, warming and dry, leaving notes of mocha, charred oak, and lingering sherry sweetness. This whisky is a fine showcase of GlenAllachie’s adventurous wood policy and the skill of Master Blender Billy Walker—combining power, precision, and layered complexity.
