Rhum Barbancourt 15 Ans is produced by Société du Rhum Barbancourt in Haiti (the distillery is located in Damiens, outside Port-au-Prince).
It’s one of the house’s most well-known quality rums and reflects Barbancourt’s Haitian style: rum made from fresh sugarcane juice (not molasses), distilled and aged in oak. This typically results in a drier, more elegant, oak-driven profile compared with many sweeter, more “dessert-like” rums.
On the nose you’ll often find dried fruit, orange peel, vanilla, cocoa, cedar/noble wood notes, and a warm spiced edge. The palate is full yet relatively dry, showing caramelized sugar, nuts, dark chocolate, spices, and a clear oak presence that adds structure and length. The finish is long, warming, and lightly peppery, with wood, cocoa, and a hint of roasted tones.
Use: It’s primarily made for sipping—at room temperature or over a large ice cube. In cocktails, it performs best in classic rum serves where you want more depth and cask character, such as a rum Old Fashioned or other spirit-forward drinks with restrained sweetness and a touch of bitterness. With food, it’s an excellent digestif, especially alongside dark chocolate, nuts, aged cheeses, or desserts with roasted/fruity character rather than rich, creamy sweetness.
