Quinta do Portal’s unfiltered LBV belongs to the very top tier of its category, and the savvy choice for port wine enthusiasts is to opt for a quality LBV over a mediocre vintage port. The better durability after opening also speaks in favor of the former.

Quinta do Portal is located in the heart of Cima Corgo, not far from Pinhão, where steep, terraced mountain slopes host some of Douro’s finest terroir. The 2018 vintage was marked by an exceptional growing season: a cold, wet spring, a blazing hot summer, and a temperate autumn with perfect harvest weather. Thanks to the spring’s mildew, natural yields were low! Despite numerous concerns along the way, it turned out to be an absolutely outstanding port vintage.

Fermentation in stainless steel and four years of aging in large, old casks have prepared this wine for a potentially long life in the bottle. The bottle is equipped with a traditional cork, consistent with the wine’s aging potential. This unfiltered LBV is a dense and powerful delicacy that offers a user-friendly flavor experience even now.

The nose and palate feature highly intense aromatic components reminiscent of elderberries, mulberries, blackcurrants, chocolate, and spicy notes. This edition boasts serious depth, richness, and fullness without sacrificing overall balance.

The wine can be enjoyed on its own, with chocolate desserts, or with strong blue cheeses.

We recommend a serving temperature of 14-18°C.

Over time, this lightly filtered port will develop sediment, so we recommend decanting the wine if stored for 3-4 years or more. Once opened, the wine remains fresh in its youth for 2-4 weeks, especially when stored cool, though its longevity in fully mature form is somewhat shorter. A qualified estimate of its aging potential is 2035-2040 with proper storage.
