Pusser’s Rum – British Navy Black Gunpowder Proof 70 cl. 54,5%
Original Admiralty Strength Rum – Product of Guyana
Pusser’s British Navy Rum Gunpowder Proof is a rum that is inspired by the rum that all naval personnel received in their daily ration up to 31 July 1970 (known as Black Tot Day).
This version of the rum is at 54.5% and is close to the original strength that they would have drunk back then. This strength is called here Gunpowder Proof, which was a kind of test to see if the rum was “strong enough”. If they poured rum in addition to the gunpowder, and could still light it, then it was approved, and thus what we now call gunpowder proof. If not, “the Pusser” (the one who brought the daily ration) could risk being thrown overboard, at least that’s how the stories go.
The rum has a clear but dark copper color. This rum is the closest you will find, commercially, to British Navy Rum
