Planteray Rum (formerly Plantation) is the rum house linked to Maison Ferrand in Cognac. They operate as a modern rum house rather than a single distillery: partnering with producers across multiple rum regions, selecting distillates and casks, and shaping a house style through blending and a strong focus on maturation and “double ageing,” often adding a second stage in France for extra roundness and refined spice.
Planteray Sealander is designed as a “voyage across the oceans”: rums from Barbados, Mauritius, and Fiji are brought together to showcase three distinct origins in one blend. Broadly speaking, Barbados contributes smooth, cask-led roundness, Mauritius adds more herbal/grassy aromatic lift, and Fiji brings richer fruit and tropical depth. It’s typically bottled at 40% ABV and built to work both as an easy sipper and a versatile cocktail rum.
In the glass, Sealander tends to be fruit-forward and softly spiced rather than funky: think tropical fruit (banana, pineapple), orange peel, caramel/toffee, vanilla, and warm baking spices like cinnamon and nutmeg, sometimes with a touch of coconut and a gentle sweet-and-spice balance. The overall impression is generous, rounded, and warmly finishing.
Serving and use
Neat or on ice: an easy sip if you enjoy vanilla/caramel and tropical fruit.
In cocktails: excellent for Daiquiri riffs, a Rum Old Fashioned, Rum Sour, and elegant highballs.
As a bar all-rounder: great when you want clear rum character without heavy sweetness or high-ester intensity.
