Plani Arche Montefalco Rosso is a food-friendly red from Umbria with classic Montefalco character: Sangiovese as the backbone and a clear portion of the local powerhouse Sagrantino, adding extra structure, spice, and grip. The style is typically fruity and generous through the mid-palate, but with a more serious tannin frame than many everyday Italian reds—perfect when you want a wine that can handle both tomato-based dishes and protein.
The producer
Plani Arche is a small producer in the Montefalco area of Umbria, near Assisi. They work with a nature-minded philosophy and a clear focus on expressing place, drawing from small vineyard parcels and a hands-on, craft-led approach in the cellar.
Flavour profile
In the glass you’ll find a ruby-red colour and aromas of dark and red berries, often joined by spice, herbal notes, and a gentle tobacco hint. The palate is dry and balanced, with fresh acidity, cherry-and-plum fruit, and a firm yet well-placed tannic structure from Sagrantino that brings length. The finish is persistent, lightly firm, and spicy—opening up nicely with a bit of air.
Serving tips
Serve at 16–18 °C (slightly cool at first). Consider 20–40 minutes in a decanter or large glass for a softer, more open expression.
Food pairing
A great match for ragù pasta, lasagne, pizza with mushrooms or salsiccia, grilled meats, charcuterie, and aged cheeses. It also shines with herb-led dishes and roasted flavours.
