Papalin is a rum series created by Luca Gargano (La Maison & Velier) with a clear purpose: to revive the classic practice of blending rums from multiple producers within the same origin to create a broader, more complete profile. In Haiti, that often means clairin and cane-driven distillates, which taste very different from molasses rum—more herbal, mineral, and “earthy,” typically with high aromatic intensity and a strong sense of place.

Papalin Haiti 6 Years Old Ex Sherry Cask takes that Haitian cane-juice/clairin-inspired core and adds an extra layer through ageing/finishing in ex-sherry casks. The result tends to bring more depth and a softer roundness without losing the lively, dry energy that defines the Haitian style. Sherry casks often contribute dried-fruit richness, nuttiness, and warm spiced sweetness, which can dovetail beautifully with the rum’s herbal backbone.

In the glass, expect fresh cane, citrus, and herbs at the core, layered with dried apricot/raisin notes, orange peel, nuts, cocoa, and warming spices. The texture can feel gently waxy/oily in a positive way, and the overall impression is usually dry and flavor-dense rather than sweet.
