Pago de los Capellanes Crianza – Ribera del Duero at its finest
Pago de los Capellanes Crianza is a wine of both energy and elegance, capturing the essence of Ribera del Duero. Produced by the Rodero Villa family in the village of Pedrosa de Duero, the winery was founded in 1996. Its name recalls the 15th century, when the land once belonged to chaplains, a heritage that still echoes today.
Made from 100% Tempranillo (Tinto Fino) sourced from carefully selected vineyards with an average vine age of around 35 years, the wine reflects the character of its limestone-rich, stony soils. After fermentation, it is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, followed by a further 12 months of bottle ageing before release.
In the glass, the Crianza shows an intense cherry-red colour with violet hues. The bouquet is complex and inviting, offering ripe notes of cherry, plum, and blackberry, balanced with hints of vanilla, spice, leather, and liquorice. On the palate it is smooth and creamy, with refined tannins, fresh acidity, and a long, elegant finish.
Pago de los Capellanes is renowned for its terroir-driven craftsmanship and low yields, resulting in wines of power, balance, and depth. Their philosophy is rooted in respect for nature and a minimalist approach in the cellar, allowing each vineyard to express its unique character.
Pago de los Capellanes Crianza is an excellent food wine, pairing beautifully with grilled red meats, lamb, hearty stews, game, charcuterie, and aged cheeses – but also works wonderfully with risotto and rich pasta dishes. Serve at 16–18 °C, ideally decanted for an hour.
A wine that showcases why Ribera del Duero is considered one of Spain’s most celebrated wine regions.
