Midtfyns Bryghus was founded in 2004, and is housed in a disused butcher’s shop in Brobyværk, from where the first beer is sent to the market in 2005. Initially, the brewery focuses on brewing beer of Scottish origin under licence, and produces the two beers Moulin Ale and Braveheart, which are the only beers the brewery offers in its first year of existence. In 2006, the brewery is taken over by Eddie Szweda, who still owns the brewery today. In the same year, Midtfyn’s Brewery launches their Stout, Ale and Wheat. The following year, the range is further expanded, as Midtfyns Bryghus launches six new beers on the market; Imperial Stout, IPA, Double IPA, Easter Brew, Christmas Ale and Christmas Stout. Imperial Stout is subsequently named beer novelty of the year 2007.
2007 will also be the year Midtfyns Bryghus gets Hollywood on its back. The film company behind the Mel Gibson film “Braveheart” will not accept that Midtfyn’s Brewery produces a beer that shares its name with the film, even though the same beer has been produced without problems in Scotland for 10 years. The decision to take Moulin Ale and Braveheart out of production had already been made, but Midtfyns Bryghus chooses to throw the matter out to the press, and gets an impressive amount of column space and publicity for the DKK 10,000 that Midtfyns Bryghus ultimately has to pay pay in compensation.
A collaboration with the Danish Arsenal fan club sees the light of day in 2008. Midtfyn’s Bryghus launches Gunners Ale, a red ale, where the white color of the foam and the red tinge of the beer are matched to the colors of Arsenal’s club colours. In the same year Wit is launched. Chili Tripel and Barley Wine will be launched in 2009, Chili Tripel will be named beer novelty of the year 2009 at the Danish Beer Enthusiasts’ general meeting at the beginning of 2010.
At the Danish Beer Enthusiasts’ Beer Festival in 2010, Midtfyn’s Bryghus shared a stand with the Dutch brewery Brouwerrij De Molen. That match was so successful that the brewers from the two breweries agreed to brew a beer together. The result, X-Porter, was first
