Marsk Original Gin is a Danish London Dry Gin from Marskdestilleriet, created to reflect the marshland and the area around the Wadden Sea in southern Jutland. The producer describes it as the house’s original gin, handcrafted and distilled in a copper still, with a clear local identity and a style shaped by the natural surroundings of Rømø and the marshes. It is bottled at 40% ABV in a 700 ml format.
As for the producer, Marskdestilleriet focuses on spirits in which local impressions, botanicals, and coastal character play a central role. In producer descriptions, the Wadden Sea, the salty air, and the Danish marsh landscape are highlighted as key parts of the distillery’s identity, and Marsk Original Gin clearly stands out as one of the most foundational and place-driven products in the range.
Production is based on organic juniper, chamomile, and lavender, and according to the producer the gin contains a total of 11 botanicals. Several product descriptions also mention black pepper, which points to a classic London Dry base with a slightly softer and more aromatic profile. The gin is distilled from scratch in the distillery’s copper still, reinforcing its handcrafted, small-scale character. It also won silver at IWSC 2022.
In the glass, Marsk Original Gin is clearly juniper-led, but with a rounder and more aromatic expression than many harder, drier London Dry gins. The producer itself highlights its pronounced juniper character and its remarkably rounded flavour, while IWSC tasting notes mention perfumed, zesty, and herbal aromas along with touches of liquorice, pepper, citrus, and warming spice. The overall impression is therefore fresh, herbal, and classic, yet softer and more layered thanks to the chamomile, lavender, and spice underneath.
It works very well in a gin and tonic, ideally with lemon or rosemary, which is also the producer’s own recommendation. With its clear juniper profile and balanced spice, it also suits anyone looking for a classic Danish gin with a little more floral character and roundness than a fully traditional, austere London Dry.
