Lagavulin 16 year old bottling note
Lagavulin 16 Year Old was first released in the early 1990s, and was originally intended to be a limited edition bottling. However, due to its popularity, Lagavulin 16 Year Old has become a permanent part of the Lagavulin range.
A highly sought-after Scotch single malt whiskey with the massive peat smoke typical of southern Islay – but also offering richness and a dryness that makes it a really interesting drink. Lagavulin 16 years old has truly become a benchmark Islay dram from the Lagavulin distillery.
Lagavulin 16 Year Old is perhaps more smoky than peaty and has a wonderful flavor that relates to Lapsang Souchong tea…
If you’re looking for a food pairing for this beauty, try salty blue cheeses with intense flavors that complement the intense, peaty, sweet and salty character of this Lagavulin wonderfully.
A classic Scotch whisky, Lagavulin’s 16 year old is a benchmark malt from the south coast of Islay. This one is perhaps more smoky than peaty and has a wonderful flavor that relates to Lapsang Souchong tea…
Nose: More like Lapsang Souchong tea than Lapsang Souchong! One of the most smoky noses from Islay. It is big, very, very concentrated and smells of iodine, sweet spices, good, ripe sherry and creamy vanilla. Breathtaking.
Taste: Very thick and rich. A massive mouthful of malt and sherry with good fruity sweetness but also a wonderful sweetness. Large, strong peat and oak.
