J.M. Goulard Champagne Origine Blanc de Noirs Extra Brut (ECO) 75 cl

Champagne de France

J.M. Goulard Origine Blanc de Noirs Extra Brut is a characterful and terroir-driven Champagne from the Massif de Saint-Thierry near Reims. This is a blanc de noirs, meaning a Champagne made exclusively from black grapes, where the house style leans towards a more vinous and gastronomic expression without losing its freshness and elegance.

The wine is made from pinot meunier and pinot noir, and several sources describe the cuvée as being partly vinified in oak barrels – around 50% – to add extra depth and texture. After the traditional secondary fermentation in bottle, the wine is aged for around 24 months on the lees, and the dosage is 4 g/l, placing it clearly in a dry extra brut style.

On the nose, Origine Blanc de Noirs shows a generous yet precise expression, with notes of raspberry, red apple, white flowers and candied orange. The palate is fresh and elegant, yet fuller than a more slender aperitif Champagne, with hints of peach, mango, citrus and fine minerality. The mousse is creamy and well integrated, and the finish feels long, silky and balanced.

This is a Champagne that is particularly well suited to food. It works beautifully with elegant fish dishes, shellfish, mild goat’s cheese and dishes where you want both freshness and a little more structure in the glass. It is also a very good choice for those looking for a blanc de noirs with clear personality, a dry style and a more artisanal expression.
