J. S. RASCH VIN & SPIRITUS
J. S. Rasch Wine and Colonial Goods has been selling life’s finer things since 1807. The current ownership goes back two generations.

This is the selection for anyone who enjoys wine with personality. Unusual but Perfect brings together six bottles that stand out from the ordinary – orange wine made from Grechetto, alpine Petite Arvine, mineral-driven Greco di Tufo, classic Greek Retsina, a Mallorcan red blend, and powerful Sagrantino from Umbria. It is a case that feels curious, charming, and a little unexpected, yet every bottle has a very clear place at the table.
Why these ones?
These six work so well together because they show that the unusual is often what makes wine the most memorable. Here you get freshness, salinity, tannin, herbs, texture, and spice in styles that are not always the most obvious, but become incredibly right with food that has real character. In short, this is a selection for anyone who wants to serve something with more individuality in the glass – while discovering just how perfect such wines can be for dishes that also go a little beyond the ordinary.
Plani Arche – Gordito Grechetto Orange Wine
An orange wine with both structure and charm. Here you get a full, spicy, lightly nutty style with clear texture, fresh acidity, and a fine, slightly bitter tannic grip on the finish. What makes the wine especially good is that combination of fruit, tannin, and energy, which makes it behave almost like a meeting point between white and red wine. That is why it is particularly successful with more unusual dishes such as fried cauliflower with tahini, spiced fish, pulled pork, or air-dried charcuterie – foods where salt, richness, and spice all need a wine with grip. Plani Arche is run by Roberto Di Filippo and Elena Pompeii in Umbria, where the family works organically and with low intervention, deeply rooted in the local landscape.
Chateau Feuillet Petite Arvine
An unusual and expressive alpine white with a fresh, soft, and aromatic character. The palate leans toward grapefruit, passion fruit, white melon, and wild flowers, with fine acidity and an almost mountain-fresh lift. That makes it especially good with dishes that benefit from both salinity and elegance, such as goat’s cheese with honey and herbs, grilled lemon chicken, or ceviche with passion fruit. The wine has that cool, aromatic precision that makes food feel even more alive. Château Feuillet is located in the Aosta Valley, and the producer works with grapes from high-altitude sites where aroma and freshness naturally become part of the expression.
Torricino Raone Greco di Tufo Riserva
This is a white wine with more depth and seriousness than many people expect. The palate is fresh, stony, and clearly mineral, with salinity, structure, and an almost smoky precision that gives it a very gastronomic character. That is exactly why it works so well with unique dishes such as grilled octopus with lemon, pasta with bottarga, or roasted fennel with pecorino – dishes where salinity, texture, and minerality get to play together. Raone is Torricino’s more prestige-driven interpretation of Greco di Tufo, grown in Tufo on limestone and clay soils with sulphur veins above the old sulphur mines, which contributes to the wine’s distinctive character.
Malamatina Retsina
A wine that truly divides opinion – until it meets the right food. Here, fruitiness and the classic note of pine resin come together in a style that feels herbal, fresh, and unmistakably Greek. What makes Retsina so good in this selection is that it does not try to be anything other than itself, and that is exactly why it becomes fantastic with dishes such as dill meatballs, zucchini fritters with feta, grilled halloumi, or stuffed vine leaves. The resin note and herbal profile pick up salt, olive oil, herbs, and grilled flavours in a way that very few other wines can.
MUAC! Mallorca
A Mediterranean red with plenty of personality and charm. The palate moves toward black and red berries, spice, Mediterranean herbs, and a rounded, fresh feel with finely integrated tannins. What makes MUAC! especially good is that it has both warmth and liveliness, making it perfect with more unusual Mediterranean dishes such as sobrassada on toast, rosemary lamb meatballs, grilled peppers, or roasted aubergine with spices. The wine never feels heavy, but it has enough spice and fruit to carry the food. Terra de Falanis works with local grape varieties and terroir-driven wines, and MUAC! is made in southeastern Mallorca mainly from Callet and Mantonegro with a small proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon for structure.
Plani Arche – Montefalco Sagrantino
The most powerful and uncompromising wine in the case. Here you get dark berries, spice, herbs, chocolate notes, and a dense, marked tannic structure that makes the wine both robust and impressive. What makes it especially good for unique food is that it loves dishes with depth, salinity, and texture – such as wild boar ragù, slow-cooked lamb shoulder, grilled game, or aged pecorino with black olive tapenade. Where many wines step back, Sagrantino steps forward and does the job. Plani Arche makes its Sagrantino organically in Umbria, and the estate is known for its artisanal approach to local grapes and its strong respect for regional traditions.
Closing
This is a selection for anyone willing to go a little beyond the standard choices, and who knows that the most memorable bottles are often the ones that feel the most individual. Six unusual personalities – yet each one perfect in its own way, especially when paired with food that also dares to stand out.
