“Celtic Whisky Destillery”- France – Single Malt Whisky
Glann Ar Mor 46% Single Malt Whiskey is one of the three pillars on which “The Celtic Whiskey Distillery” stands. The other two are Kornog Peated Single Malt and Gwalarn Blended Whisky. Glann Ar Mor means “by the sea” in Brittany, and is exactly where the distillery is located. Glann Ar Mor is a fruity single malt whisky, it is aged in bourbon casks and has a light golden colour. It is an unfiltered whiskey and it is distilled from an old type of malted barley called “Maris Otter Barley”. The sea, which is close by, brings a wildness but also a calmness into the whisky, which has notes of both iodine and salt. There are delicious notes of honey and toffee, and later apricot and sweet spices. It is a huge experience. France has a warmer climate than Scotland and one has higher evaporation and angels share respectively. Therefore, in Scottish eyes, it is relatively young whiskey, but of incredibly high quality. The interaction with the cask is faster in the heat and therefore an incredibly intense and delicious whiskey is obtained. The single malt whiskeys are between 3 and 6 years old and are bottled when they are ready. Best enjoyed neat, or with a few drops of water.
