In the 19th century, Latour-à-Pomerol was owned by the Chambaud couple, whose daughter married Louis Garitey in 1875. After Garitey’s death in 1914, his three daughters inherited the castle, one of whom, Madame Loubat, later acquired Pétrus. In the following 15 years, Loubat increases its share with two significant parcels, one in the center of the Pomerol plateau, which today forms the largest part of the estate, and the other close to Château Trotanoy. After Loubat’s death in 1961, the property was inherited by Madame Lacoste, who entered into an agreement with Ets in 1962. Jean-Pierre Moueix about running the property, which was later expanded to also include vinification, bottling and sales. The soil at Château Latour à Pomerol is quite varied. The middle parcel of 5 hectares consists of gravel and clay and lies on Pomerol’s iron-containing clay subsoil. The wine from here is structured, compact and rather powerful. In contrast, the other parcels to the north and west are more sandy, which contributes to a softer and more charming wine. When the different parcels are mixed, the complex characteristics merge into a higher unity.
