Planteray Rum (formerly Plantation) is the rum house linked to Maison Ferrand in Cognac, operating as a modern rum house rather than a single distillery. They partner with producers across different rum regions, select distillates and casks, and shape a recognizable house style through blending and a strong focus on maturation and “double ageing,” often adding a second stage in France to build smoothness and spice.
Planteray Gran Añejo is a smooth, rounded, crowd-pleasing rum in a more “Latin” direction—focused on richness, vanilla tones, and warm spice rather than Jamaican funk. It’s typically built as a blend of rums from Guatemala and Belize, bringing together sweet, fruit-forward roundness with a deeper molasses undertone. The style is clearly cask-influenced without being aggressive—more creamy and dessert-spiced than dry and edgy.
In the glass you’ll often find vanilla, caramel, and toffee, with hints of dried fruit, orange peel, soft cocoa/chocolate, and a warming spice line that can suggest cinnamon and nutmeg. The texture is smooth and rounded, with a comfortable, gently warming finish. It works beautifully both as an easy sipper for those who like a softer style and as a flavor-building component in cocktails where you want richness and spice.
Serving and use
Neat or on ice: easy sipping, especially if you like vanilla-and-caramel profiles.
In cocktails: excellent in a Rum Old Fashioned, Rum Sour, and espresso/cocoa-leaning drinks, and also as a soft base in a Cuba Libre.
With food: great alongside caramel and chocolate desserts, especially with nuts or banana.
