Plani Arche Nature is a package for anyone who wants to discover Plani Arche’s clearest expression of Umbria: a white wine with freshness and light structure, a food-friendly red with classic Montefalco character, and a powerful Sagrantino with depth and a sense of age-worthiness. The producer works organically in Umbria with a handcrafted, nature-driven approach, and these three wines show the breadth of the estate in a very clear way.
These three wines were selected because together they tell the full story of Plani Arche. Grechetto stands for energy, salty minerality, and a more direct expression of the producer’s white wine style. Montefalco Rosso DOC shows the more everyday gastronomic side of Montefalco, where fruit, spice, and structure come together in a wine that works broadly with food. Montefalco Sagrantino is the most serious and powerful bottle in the package, showing what the estate can do when tannin, concentration, and ageing potential are allowed to speak fully.
How it is made
This wine is made from 100% Grechetto grown on limestone and clay soils in Umbria. The grapes are gently pressed as whole bunches, fermented for around 20 days at low temperature with a combination of natural and selected organic yeast, go through malolactic fermentation, and then rest for six months on the lees in stainless steel. The result is a white wine that combines purity with light texture and a clear sense of origin.
How it tastes
Grechetto is robust yet lively in style. The nose moves toward spices, peach, pear, and lemon, while the palate is dry, firm, and persistent, with a light tannic structure that gives the wine more grip than a classic simple white. It is a wine with both freshness and a touch of Umbrian solidity.
What it pairs with
It works especially well with fish, white meats, vegetable-based starters, and dishes where you want a white wine with a little more body and structure. That is why it is such a strong opening bottle in the package: easy to understand, yet still clearly full of personality.
How it is made
Montefalco Rosso is made from 75% Sangiovese and 25% Sagrantino grown on limestone and clay soils in Montefalco. The producer describes the wine as being vinified as a red with maceration and then aged in stainless steel, preserving fruit, energy, and herbal spice rather than focusing on oak. In other words, it is a wine built for food and for a clear regional identity.
How it tastes
This is a red wine with classic Montefalco character. In the glass there are dark and red berries, spice, herbs, tobacco, cherry, and plum. The palate is dry and balanced, with fresh acidity and a clear but well-placed tannic structure from Sagrantino, giving the wine both length and grip without making it heavy.
What it pairs with
Montefalco Rosso was selected because it is the most immediately food-friendly red in the package. It works very well with pasta ragù, lasagne, pizza with mushrooms or salsiccia, grilled meats, charcuterie, and aged cheeses. It is also particularly strong with dishes featuring herbs, tomato, and roasted flavors.
How it is made
This wine is made from 100% Sagrantino grown on limestone and clay soils in Umbria. The producer states traditional long maceration and at least twelve months of ageing in wood, while the wine also continues to mature for a long time in bottle after barrel ageing. This creates a wine with power, structure, and clear ageing potential.
How it tastes
Montefalco Sagrantino is the most intense wine in the package. The nose and palate move between red berries, dark blackberry, leather, tar, and a light stony note. The mouthfeel is full and long, with a tannic structure that is both powerful and velvety, making the wine feel big yet still controlled.
What it pairs with
This is the bottle for the most deeply flavored dishes. Producer and retailer highlight game, aged cheeses, and richer meat dishes, and the wine also works very well with spicy sausage and creamy cheeses. In other words, this is a wine that wants protein, fat, and depth in the food in order to truly come into its own.
Plani Arche Nature is three wines with three different roles: one for freshness and structure, one for everyday gastronomy, and one for power and depth. Together, they create a package that shows why Plani Arche is so interesting: they make wines that feel clearly Umbrian, handcrafted, and food-driven, without losing the personality of the grapes themselves.
