Six bottles that show why Spain is hard to beat when you want excellent wine for the money. This selection brings together generous Tempranillo from Ribera del Duero and Cigales with fresh, mineral-driven whites from Valdeorras, Rías Baixas and Rueda. It is a package with both breadth and personality – three reds with dark fruit, spice and oak influence, and three whites with freshness, texture and clear Spanish character.
The Reds
Monte Pinadillo Crianza
A classic and generous Ribera del Duero with dark, ripe fruit and beautifully integrated oak notes. You will find hints of blueberry, blackberry, dark cherries, vanilla, balsamic tones and a light toasted character that gives the wine depth without overpowering it. The palate is full-bodied yet smooth, with good structure and a long, flavourful finish. It pairs wonderfully with grilled beef, lamb, pasta dishes with mushrooms or aged hard cheeses. The wine is produced from 100% Tempranillo, with hand harvesting, extended skin contact, temperature-controlled fermentation and ageing in both French and American oak, followed by bottle ageing.
Ubalinda Reserva
A very good-value Reserva with ripe Tempranillo fruit, clear oak character and a silky, well-balanced style. The nose offers red fruits, vanilla and oak, while the palate is soft and rounded with ripe tannins and an elegant finish. This is a wine that works very well with red meat, game, chicken, turkey and mature cheeses. It is produced in D.O. Cigales from selected Tempranillo grapes grown on older vines, with manual harvesting, temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel and extended ageing in French and American oak barrels.
Pago de los Capellanes Joven Roble
The most youthful and approachable red in the package – fresh, fruit-driven and full of energy, yet still showing the fine concentration that has made Ribera del Duero so appreciated. The fruit is open and inviting, with a pure and generous style that makes the wine easy to enjoy. A very good choice for tapas, charcuterie, grilled chicken, pork or other flavourful small dishes. The wine is made from Tempranillo grown in selected vineyards in Ribera del Duero and spends a shorter period in oak to preserve its freshness while gaining extra depth.
The Whites
O Luar do Sil Godello
A clean, lively and mineral-driven Godello with plenty of freshness and precision. The style is bright and focused, with fine energy and a clean finish where the stony soil leaves its mark. An excellent choice for shellfish, grilled white fish, chicken with lemon or fresh salads. The wine is produced in Valdeorras from Godello grown on older vines, with careful selection, cool fermentation in stainless steel tanks and ageing on the lees for added texture.
Contrapunto Albariño
A young and charming Albariño with both freshness and personality. The nose shows notes of pear, stone fruit, mandarin and ginger, together with orange blossom, fresh herbs and a light mineral salinity. The palate is lively and flavourful, with crisp acidity, fine salinity and a juicy, refreshing finish. This is an obvious match for prawns, mussels, ceviche, sushi or fried fish. The wine is produced in Rías Baixas from Albariño, with a focus on pure fruit, freshness and the area’s distinctive maritime character.
Cuatro Rayas Viñedos Centenarios
A more serious and textural Verdejo, where old vines bring both concentration and depth. The nose is intense, with white flowers, ripe fruit and the classic notes of anise and herbs that are so typical of the grape. The palate is round, full and almost creamy in texture, with a long finish and an excellent balance between fruit and structure. It pairs very well with grilled fish, chicken, rice dishes and white meats. The wine is produced from Verdejo grown on very old vines in sandy soils, where part of the wine is fermented in oak barrels and the rest in stainless steel before ageing on the lees for extra complexity.
