Château Suduiraut 2010 is a classic and expressive Sauternes with great complexity, depth, and ageing potential. The wine comes from one of the appellation’s historic estates and carries the prestigious Premier Cru Classé classification dating back to 1855. The style is rich and generous, yet at the same time precise and balanced, with the kind of concentration that makes great Sauternes both majestic and nuanced.
Tasting notes
The palate is full-bodied, silky, and intense, with a clear but well-controlled sweetness. It offers notes of acacia honey, roasted apricot, saffron, plum, almond, candied fruit, and oak, followed by hints of cocoa, ginger, and vanilla on the finish. The 2010 vintage already shows a lightly developed character, with a golden colour and subtle amber tones, yet it still comes across as a wine with strength, energy, and considerable further potential.
How it is produced
The wine is made from 90% sémillon and 10% sauvignon blanc. The grapes were hand-harvested in five passes between 22 September and 9 November 2010, which is typical for Sauternes, where the fruit is picked progressively as noble rot develops. After harvest, the wine was aged for 20 months in oak barrels, with half of the barrels new and the other half used for one previous vintage. This method brings concentration, texture, and a finely integrated spicy oak character.
What makes it unique
What makes Château Suduiraut unique is the combination of an exceptional terroir and the careful selection of botrytised grapes. The estate’s location close to the Ciron and Garonne rivers creates misty mornings and sunny days that encourage the development of noble rot, concentrating the grapes’ sugars and aromas. The result is a wine that combines opulence with precision, where the sweetness is supported by freshness, aromatic complexity, and mineral structure.
About the producer
Château Suduiraut is one of the most renowned names in Sauternes and is regarded as one of the region’s great historic estates. The property covers 91 hectares of vineyards on gravelly, sandy clay soils, with high planting density and a clear focus on quality in both vineyard and cellar. Today the producer is part of AXA Millésimes, yet the estate’s identity remains firmly rooted in the classic Sauternes tradition, where rigorous selection and terroir expression are central.
