LAGG Palo Cortado Finish Small Batch Release 70 cl. 56.2%
Single Malt Scotch Whisky
LAGG Palo Cortado Finish – Small Batch Release is a characterful, peated single malt from Lagg Distillery on the Isle of Arran. Lagg is the sister distillery to Arran, but where Arran often leans fruity and elegant, Lagg is deliberately more robust: assertive peat smoke, firm structure, and a slightly coastal feel—an ideal match for a sherry cask finish.
The producer: Lagg Distillery
Lagg is a relatively new distillery with a clear ambition: to craft a modern peated malt with classic Scottish weight and texture. The style is built around peated malt, careful distillation, and a cask strategy that likes contrast—letting smoke and oak meet fruit, nuts, and spice. The result is typically an oily mouthfeel, a confident grip, and a distinctly bold house character.
What a Palo Cortado finish brings
Palo Cortado is one of sherry’s most intriguing styles, often combining dry elegance with deeper nutty and spicy complexity. When a peated whisky is finished in Palo Cortado casks, the combination can be brilliantly layered:
peat smoke meets toasted nuts, dry cocoa, and warming spice
the fruit profile leans toward dried figs, orange peel, and darker stone fruit
the finish gains complexity with a dry, sherry-driven oak grip
Tasting profile
On the nose, you’ll find clear peat smoke followed by sherry-led notes—nutty depth, gentle spice, and a vinous dryness. The palate is built on smoke, oak, and dark fruit, lifted by citrus zest and a subtly dry edge that keeps it more savoury than sweet. The finish is long and warming, with lingering smoke, spice, and toasted cask character.
Serving & pairing
Serve at 16–18°C. A few drops of water can open up extra nuttiness and citrus. Excellent with aged hard cheeses, charcuterie, grilled lamb, mushrooms, and anything with a roasted surface.
