However, due to a long series of challenges, such as famine, Prohibition, and resistance to adapting to a changing market, the Irish whiskey industry experienced a gradual but devastating collapse. By 1970, only two active distilleries remained on the entire island!<\/p>\n
Fortunately, the tide has (finally) begun to turn for Irish whiskey, with new distilleries popping up across the island. Walsh Whiskey, founded in 1999 by husband-and-wife team Bernard and Rosemary Walsh, has positioned itself as a leader in this Irish whiskey renaissance.
