The Italians have a concept for wines to be enjoyed on cold evenings in front of the fireplace. They call it ‘vino meditazione’ – wine of meditation. It is a category that often falls to wines with sweetness and high alcohol, just like an Amarone.<\/p>\n
The wine is just perfectly suited for Christmas Eve, but it can of course also be enjoyed to a large extent on its own, with no other accompaniment than the crackling of the flames.<\/p>\n

\nOne of Valpolicella’s most skilled winemakers makes balanced and fresh Valpolicella wines from high-lying fields. The Accordini brothers Tiziano and Daniele are known as some of the Veneto region’s most skilled winemakers. They manage the Stefano Accordini family business in Fumane, which has been producing wines in the Valpolicella appellation since the early 1900s.<\/p>\n
Next door, Tiziano Accordini runs Corte Alta with his son Giacomo. This luxury project really took off when Tiziano bought 8 ha of the best located land in the area in 2000. The vineyards are located near Cavalo and Mazzurega at an altitude of 5-600 meters and are thus some of Valpolicella’s highest.<\/p>\n
Freshness, balance and concentrated fruit<\/p>\n
For the Corte Alta wines, balance and freshness in interaction with the concentrated fruit are alpha and omega. And precisely because the vines are grown on high-lying fields, it gives the wines a fresher fruit acidity. The grapes simply ripen 10-14 days later than those grown at lower altitudes. The wines are made from the local Corvina grape, supplemented with some Rondinella and a pinch of Molinara.
