Batch number 2 in 2023 of Benromach’s Cask Strength bottling was distilled in the year 2014 and bottled in 2023. All that time the whiskey spent in a combination of first-fill sherry casks and bourbon casks until it was bottled at a respectable 59.7% – without neither caramel coloring nor chill filtration. An old school Speyside whsiky which balances dried fruit and sherry sweetness with a touch of smoke.<\/p>\n
Colour: Amber.
\nNose: Quite intense with sherry-like notes of dried fruit and orange peel, cinnamon sticks and a touch of smoke.
\nTasting notes: Great power and intensity in the whisky, bursting with lots of smoke (for a Speysider), walnuts, figs and honey.<\/p>\n
Serving suggestions: Should be enjoyed neat, possibly with a drop of water.<\/p>\n
Benromach is the essence of a craft distillery. It’s hands-on, all the way through, and probably the smallest distillery in Speyside. Only 2 men are involved in the production! There are no thermometers or pressure gauges on their pot-stills – you ensure that things run as they should with “sound, touch and sight”. It’s old fashioned, but it’s amazingly good.
