El Dorado Diamond Port Mourant 2010 Vert is a blended-in-the-barrel blend from the famous Demerara distillery. This region of Guyana was once home to dozens of distilleries, each producing a different style of rum. These distilleries have all closed today, but some of their stills and recipes have been preserved.<\/p>\n
The Diamond distillery has blended rums from Coffey stills and the legendary Port Mourant pot-still before aging.<\/p>\n
These rums were distilled in 2010, aged in old bourbon barrels and then bottled brut de f\u00fbt in 2019.<\/p>\n
The nose is initially characterized by roasted aromas. First a little sweet coffee, then a rather strong burnt wood. Notes of roasted nuts emerge reminiscent of fresher wood as they shed their charred envelope.<\/p>\n
On aeration, the intensely caramelized nutty notes that give Demerara rums their charm come through. Here they are delicately coated and carefully seasoned.<\/p>\n
The palate is gripped by a heavily toasted oak barrel, whose burnt surface gives an almost mineral sensation of charcoal. From this darkness emerge notes of licorice with a juicy bar of concentrated juice. Nuts with intense kernels are present on the mid-palate, richly caramelized and coated.<\/p>\n
The finish offers a touch of smoke and roast, but above all plenty of roundness.<\/p>\n
