El Dorado Uitvlugt Enmore 2008 Bleu is a molasses rum distilled at Diamond in Guyana. This distillery in the Demerara River region is home to some of the world’s most legendary stills. El Dorado has preserved the know-how and stills of the country’s ancient distilleries, offering an infinite number of different aromatic profiles. The brand blends these “marks” into its regular range, and also experiments, such as this “blended in the barrel” series.<\/p>\n
Here, two marks of Uitvlugt columns (ICBU and GS\/20), assembled before ageing with the fabulous EHP mark of the Enmore column.<\/p>\n
The rum was distilled in 2008, then placed in ex-bourbon barrels. It was bottled in 2019, unreduced, brut de f\u00fbt.<\/p>\n
The nose is immediately seductive, invoking the heyday of the Enmore column. A handful of nuts coated in still-steaming caramel present themselves to us. They ignite the white woodiness and make it vibrate, sticking to the nostrils like a warm resin.<\/p>\n
Aeration brings out a well-roasted woodiness, from which a hint of smoke still escapes. Molasses, still full of sugar, provides texture, while sweet spices intrigue the imagination.<\/p>\n
The palate is rather seductive, with soft, toasty American oak and typical vanilla aromas. Add to this a very fluid and slightly rounded texture, and you have a very easy and accessible Demerara. The nuts are there, generously coated with caramel and molasses.<\/p>\n
The finish is rather roasted, leaving the impression of a very sweet rum.<\/p>\n
