Quinta da Fonte Souto is the Symington family\u2019s first project outside the Douro and is located in Portalegre, a cooler sub-region of Alentejo. The wine is made from grapes grown in the estate\u2019s high-altitude vineyards in the Serra de S\u00e3o Mamede, where granite and slate soils contribute freshness and complexity. The 2020 vintage expresses the estate\u2019s philosophy of combining Alentejo\u2019s power with the elegance of the mountains. The result is a wine with depth, structure and a pronounced minerality that reflects the terroir\u2019s unique character.<\/p>\n
The wine is produced from a blend of Alicante Bouschet, Syrah, Trincadeira, Aragone\u0302s, Alfrocheiro and Cabernet Sauvignon. The grapes are hand-harvested and vinified in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks. After fermentation, a large part of the wine is aged in French oak barrels for around 12 months to build complexity and structure.<\/p>\n
Quinta da Fonte Souto is the Symington family\u2019s first estate outside the Douro region. You may have heard of Symington elsewhere, as the family also owns the renowned Port producer Graham\u2019s. At Quinta da Fonte Souto, however, the focus is on classic still wines. The winery is located in Portalegre, close to the S\u00e3o Mamede mountain range, which benefits the vines with a cooler climate than you would normally expect in a region known for very hot weather.<\/p>\n
The estate comprises 43 hectares of vineyards, primarily planted with Aragone\u0302s, Alfrocheiro, Trincadeira, Alicante Bouschet, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon.
