Ardnamurchan Heritage Barley Release 2025<\/strong> is a West Highland single malt designed to spotlight the distillery\u2019s character in a clean, transparent way: 100% unpeated Golden Promise<\/strong> (heritage barley) and maturation exclusively in ex-American bourbon barrels<\/strong>. The spirit was filled into cask from 2018<\/strong> and bottled at a bold 59.2% ABV<\/strong>, delivering intensity, texture, and clarity.<\/p>\n

On the nose, it\u2019s both inviting and sharply defined: freshly opened milk chocolate digestive biscuits<\/strong>, glac\u00e9 cherries<\/strong>, and lime cordial<\/strong>, followed by a soft dusting of icing sugar on marzipan<\/strong> and apricot jam<\/strong>. There\u2019s also a warm bakery note\u2014melted butter and acacia honey on sourdough toast<\/strong>\u2014plus a bright lift of salted preserved lemons<\/strong> and a whisper of long grass<\/strong> that keeps everything lively.<\/p>\n

The palate matches the strength with a chewable, oily mouthfeel<\/strong>. The marzipan theme continues with sugared almonds<\/strong>, then turns nuttier\u2014salted cashews<\/strong> and subtle pistachio<\/strong>\u2014wrapped in a gentle, creamy sweetness. Mid-palate brings rich orange polenta cake<\/strong>, baked cooking apples with fizzy lemonade<\/strong>, and an aromatic note reminiscent of peshwari naan filling<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Ardnamurchan Distillery was established in 2014<\/strong> on the remote Ardnamurchan peninsula and is owned by Adelphi<\/strong>, long respected for its quality-focused bottlings. Sustainability is built into Ardnamurchan\u2019s day-to-day operations: the stills are heated via steam generated by a woodchip biomass boiler<\/strong> supplied from local forestry, the nearby river supports a hydro-electric generator<\/strong> that feeds power to the local grid used in distillery operations, and a water-saving system significantly reduces cooling-water draw. The site also uses solar panels<\/strong>, bottles in lightweight glass made with over 50% recycled clear glass<\/strong>, and often ships without a presentation box to cut waste and transport weight.
